Inside casing constructed of metal. Three pedals at base of lyre-shaped stand. Top lifts up. Scrolled music desk with lyre motif in centre. Marked on frame "STEINWAY AND SONS TRADEMARKS REGISTERED OCT. 31, 1876, JULY 9, 1878". Purchased through Samuel Nordheimer in New York and manufactured around 1880. (Receipt is in the Spadina Archival Collection.) Wedding present to Mary Richmond Kerr from James Austin 1882. It was shipped to the couple's home in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1882. The piano later moved with the family to Spadina House and was placed in the Drawing Room. Steinway and Sons1878-1882
